Pokagon State Park on Lake James is a lovely spot for an outdoor meal. Picnic areas with picnic tables and charcoal grills are scattered throughout the park. There is also a large concentration of picnic areas at the Black Cherry Picnic Area & Shelter. Often there are playgrounds nearby.

Spring Shelter is a small, mostly enclosed building with a couple of picnic tables and drinking water. It is non-reservable and is always open first-come, first-served.
